Ronald M. Furtado

Ronald M. Furtado, 71, of Fall River, formerly of Tiverton and Taunton, passed away at his home with his loving family by his side on Saturday, December 10, 2022, after a courageous 15 month battle with glioblastoma.  

Ron was born and raised in Fall River and was the son of the late Alfred M. and Lucy D. (Tavares) Furtado.  He was the loving husband of Janice F. (Trenholme) Furtado for 49 years.

Ronald was employed at Naval Station Newport for the last 36 years, retiring as the Director of Fleet Logistics.  A licensed electrician, Ron previously worked in the electric field. He was a member of the Fall River Lodge of Elks and had been a Cub Scout Leader and SWS Hockey Coach.  Ron loved classic cars and he loved spending time riding in his 64 Corvette.

Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Matthew R. Furtado and his wife Sarah of Framingham, MA and Michael R. Furtado and his wife Meghan of Foxboro, MA.  He also leaves 2 cousins Sandra Pacheco and Dolores Mauro, his sister in law Jean Gauthier (Pete) brother in law Bruce Trenholme (Cheryl) and many nieces and nephews.

The family would also like to thank all the nurses and staff at Dana Farber Cancer Institute who helped guide him on his treatment of care over the last 15 months, especially Dr. David Reardon, Jennifer Stefanik and our loving niece Danielle Wright. We would also like to thank the nurses and CNA’s at Southcoast Hospice for the comfort they provided.

Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation Monday, December 12, from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the Auclair Funeral Home, 690 South Main St. Fall River.  His funeral will be held Tuesday at 9:00 A.M. from the funeral home, with a Funeral Mass at Holy Trinity Church, Stafford Road, Fall River, at 10:00 A.M.  Burial will be private.
