Richard Atkinson, Jr.

Richard Atkinson, Jr., 83, of Fall River, husband of the late Theresa A. "Terry" (Trudeau) Atkinson and former husband of Barbara (Misek) Souza of Lakeland, Florida, entered into rest Monday, December 27, 2021.

He was employed by the City of Fall River as a police officer and also worked for the City of Fall River Parks Department. Richard was an Army veteran of the Korean War and was an active member of the VFW Post 314. His hobbies included fishing, hanging with his best friend, Morris.

He leaves four children, Frank Atkinson of Fall River, Lisa Braswell of Lakeland, FL, Debra Dailey (husband Paul) of Inverness, FL and Linda Calvin (husband Matthew) of Lakeville, MA; stepdaughter, Lisa Marois of Connecticut; siblings, Carol Hyman, Pearl Fitzgerald, George Atkinson, Philis Barroso and he was the brother of the late Patricia Waliston, Ann Gosselin, Shirley Atkinson; grandchildren, Brian and Steven Gehan, Amanda Tavares (husband Shawn), Timothy Dailey, Jonathan and Thomas Cheverie and Catherine Calvin and ;step-grandfather of Suzanne Calvin and was the grandfather of the late Paul Cheverie; great-grandchildren, Hayden and Aleah Gehan and Lucas and Arianna Tavares and he was the great-grandfather of the late Audry Gehan; he also leaves many nieces and nephews. He was the son of the late Richard Atkinson, Sr. and Lorraine (Marchessault) Atkinson Briggs . Visitation will be held Sunday, January 2, 2022 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at  Auclair Funeral Home, 690 South Main St. Fall River, MA.

His funeral service will be held Monday, January 3, 2022 at 11:00 AM at the Funeral Home.  The family will greet guests starting at 10:00 AM,  Burial with military honors will take place at Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
