Maria A. Borges

          Maria A. "Artie" Borges, 77, of Fall River, passed into eternal rest Thursday, September 9, 2021 at The Oaks in New Bedford following an illness.

          Born in Ponta Delgada, Sao Miguel, Acores, she was the daughter of the late Liboino and Maria Teresa (Carreiro) Borges.   She was adopted and raised by the late Humberto and Maria Luisa (Carreiro) Tavares;

          Artie was employed by Rothschild Clothing for 30 years, retiring as a supervisor of the  finishing department.  She later was employed by Somerset Ridge Nursing Center, working in the laundry room.  An avid reader, she enjoyed spending time with her nieces and nephews.  She loved to travel.

        She leaves three siblings Gustavo Tavares and his wife Margaret of Assonet, Mary Lou Pacheco and her husband Luis of Westport and Edward Tavares and his wife Paula of Riverside, RI; an aunt, Margarida C. Carvalho of Tiverton, and nieces and nephews.

     Her funeral will be held Monday, September 13, 2021 at 10:30 A.M. from the Auclair Funeral Home, 690 So. Main St., Fall River with a Funeral Mass to follow at 11:00 AM at Santo Christo Church, Columbia St.

        Her visitation will be held Monday prior to her funeral from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM.

Entombment, Notre Dame Cemetery Mausoleum, Stafford Road, Fall River.
