Lourdes (Furtado) Simao

Lourdes (Furtado) Simao, 94, former resident at Sarah Brayton Nursing Center and previously of “The Landmark”, Fall River, wife of the late Angelo Melo Simao, passed away on Saturday, May 30, 2020.  

Born in Faial Da Terra, St.Michael, Azores, she was the daughter of the late Manuel Perreira de Rezendes and Maria de Medeiros Furtado.

After emigrating to the United States in 1968 with her husband and children, she was employed by Samesta Mfg. as a seamstress. She left the garment industry to care for her husband. After his early death, and although she faced many health challenges herself, Lourdes was her family’s rock. She was a strong, quiet and kind woman. As she entered her later years, Lourdes would surprise her family and the staff with her honesty and humor. She will be greatly missed by anyone who knew her.

A member of Espirito Santo Parish, she was a devout Catholic. She always enjoyed sewing and while living at the Landmark for 15 years, Lourdes enjoyed arts and crafts, bingo and wordsearches.

She leaves three children, Lucy Ferreira (husband Jesse) of Westport, Mary Duss (husband Karlo) of Foxboro and Angelo Simao (wife Susan) of Middleboro;

Five grandchildren, Jennifer and her companion Tim Mello, Kyle Ferreira (wife Vanessa), Jared Duss (companion Rebecca Gould)

Courtney Higgins (husband Teddy) and Lauren Simao;

Four great-grandchildren, Sedryk and Shaneyl Sousa, Siena Ferreira and Emily Higgins;

She was the sister of the late Joe P. Medeiros, Manuel and Adolph Rezendes, Sophia Garrafa, Ilda and Irene Melo, Trindade Duarte and Ludovina Pimental.

Lourdes was well loved and well taken care of by the wonderful staff at Sarah Brayton especially those on Sagamore and Charlton Units. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Sarah Brayton Nursing Center,(Resident Activities Dept.) 4901 No. Main St. Private arrangements are entrusted to Auclair Funeral Home, Fall River.  A memorial service will be planned for a later date.  Online guest book at AuclairFuneralHome.com
