Lawrence J. Silva Obituary

Lawrence J. "Larry" Silva, 87, of Tiverton, passed away Sunday, March 17, 2024.  He was the husband of his beloved wife Hilda (Costa) Silva.

Besides his wife of 67 years, survived by his two children, Debra M. Assad (husband David) and Gregory G. Silva (wife Karen);

He was the father of the late Kendil “Diane Silva” Charette. Larry leaves behind 6 grandchildren: Tara Pacheco (husband Jason), Nicholas Assad, Megan Raposa, Krystal Pearson, Madison Pearson and Kevin Reddy Jr. He was blessed with 2 great grandchildren: Destiny Pacheco, and Mya Pacheco, and great, great granddaughter, Addison.

He leaves a sister Louise Rushton and her husband Robert. He also leaves many nieces and nephews.

He was born in Fall River, Massachusetts on October 7, 1936  son of the late Lawrence W. Silva and Mary (Lindo) Charette.

Larry was an Army veteran, serving during the time of the Korean War. He graduated from Bryant College with a Bachelor's Degree in Business.

He was the Administrative Director of Materials Management at St. Anne’s Hospital for 25 years and retired from Brockton Hospital after 10 years in the same capacity. While at St. Anne’s, he was instrumental in expanding the Hudner Oncology building, purchasing the first linear Accelerator for that building.

Larry was an avid camper. He loved camping with his children when they were young. He continued camping with his wife for many years in Nova Scotia, New Hampshire, Vermont and their favorite campground, Lemoine State Park in Maine. 

Larry and Hilda loved to travel. They were able to travel to China, Italy, Alaska, Costa Rica, the Azores, as well as many cruises. They also enjoyed spending several winter months every year in Florida after their retirement .

He was a life long fan of the Oakland Raiders and traveled to Oakland to see his team play. He also enjoyed watching Providence College Friars basketball.

He loved making coffee malts for his grandchildren, eating Chinese food, and a good rum and coke or Manhattan.

Larry was loved by many, including co-workers, friends and family. He had a quick wit and great sense of humor.  He was also an exemplary husband, father and human being. He embodied the best of qualities: unconditional love, strength of spirit, and an unending generosity. He will be greatly missed by all who loved him.

Visitation will be held Saturday, March 30 from 9:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. at the Auclair Funeral Home, 690 South Main St. Fall River with a funeral service at 11:00 in the funeral home.  Burial will be private.
