Jose F. Franco

Jose F. Franco, 78, of Fall River, passed into eternal rest surrounded by his loving family on Monday, May 8, 2023.

He was the husband of Rosa (Botelho) Franco, the love of his life and whom he did everything for.

Born in Lomba do Loução Povoação, Sao Miguel, Azores, he was the son of the late Manuel and Angelina (Frias) Franco. Jose was a Portuguese Air Force veteran of the Portuguese Colonial War also known as the Mozambican War of Independence. Jose was employed as a machine mechanic in the greeting card and envelope industry for over 30 years.  He enjoyed being a self made carpenter, traveling with family and friends, watching Benfica Soccer and was an avid walker.  He felt the happiest when he was with his family and especially his grandsons, who were his world.  A member of Santo Christo Parish, Jose also served as a collector for the noon Mass on Sundays.

Besides his wife of 53 years, Jose leaves two children, Antonio “Tony” Franco (wife Zelda) of Somerset and Susana “Susie” Pereira (husband Albert) of Fall River; three grandsons, Bryan Pereira, Dante Franco and Austin Pereira; three siblings, Manuel Franco (wife Fatima), Pedro Franco (wife Maria) and Vidalia Franco all residing in Canada and was the brother of the late Natvidade Moniz of Lomba do Loução Povoação, Azores.  Jose also leaves many nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held Sunday, May 14 from 3:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the Auclair Funeral Home, 690 South Main St. Fall River.  

Jose’s funeral will be held Monday, May 15 at 9:00 A.M. from the funeral home with a Funeral Mass at Santo Christo Church, Columbia St., at 10:00 A.M.  Burial following at Notre Dame Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Santo Christo Parish, 185 Canal St. Fall River, MA 02721.
