Jose E. DaCosta

Jose E. DaCosta, 80, of Fall River, passed away on Thursday, March 28, 2024.

He was the husband of Berta (Rego) Costa for the past 53 years.

A retired casket maker, he was employed by New England Casket Company.  Born in São Miguel Island, Portugal, he was the son of the late Jose Costa and Francisca Santo Christo (Palero) DeCosta.

Jose was a member of a past Chairman (Mordomo) of the Holy Ghost Committee of the Portuguese American Civil League in Somerville, where he was a member for many years,  and was a Benfica soccer fan. He also enjoyed fishing, camping and spending time with his grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, Jose is also survived by a son, Paul Costa, a daughter Susana Lausana and her husband Jose;

Two grandsons, Matthew Lausana and Nathan Lausana; three siblings, Gilda Costa Raposa, Adrianna Raposo and Antonio Costa.

Jose was the father of the late Jorge Costa and also was predeceased by several siblings.

A visitation will be held Monday, April 1, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Auclair Funeral Home, 690 South Main St. Fall River.  (Barrier-free entrance from parking lot)

His funeral will be held Tuesday, April 2 at 9:00 AM from the funeral home, with a Funeral Mass in Santo Christo Church, Columbia St., at 10:00 AM. Burial will take place at Notre Dame Cemetery.
