John "Sid" Medeiros

John “Sid” Medeiros, age 85 passed away from natural causes on December 19th, 2020.

The son of John and Irene (Enos) Medeiros, born September 5, 1935 lived most of his life in Fall River, MA until he had recently moved to Syracuse, NY to be closer to his grandchildren.  

“Sid”, as he was fondly known to most around the city, touched many lives as a Durfee High School Business Teacher and Guidance Counselor for 40 years.   In addition to educating high school students, John spent many years as a driving instructor.  As fate would have it, Sid met his future wife when he was teaching her to drive.  Sid was known as a jack of all trades and owned and operated several business’ in the city, most notably Medeiros Insurance Agency, Leisure Travel and A Fall River Driving School. 

 Sid really enjoyed life in Fall River and the connection to his Portuguese heritage, especially the food. Sid was always seen out and about around the city and loved spending time with his family and friends at the Fall River Country Club (where he was a member for over 50 years), The Elks Club and the occasional trip to the horse races. 

 Sid is predeceased by his wife of 35 years, Winifred “Vermette” He is survived by his brother, Donald (Loraine) of Westport, MA; sons, Chris (Danielle) of Springfield, NJ; Steven (Marnie) of Syracuse, NY and grandchildren, Steven and Sydney.

 Mass will be held on Wednesday, December 23 at 11:00 am at Holy Name Church, 709 Hanover St. Fall River, MA, MEET DIRECTLY AT CHURCH.  Sid will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, 2233 Robeson St, Fall River, MA, immediately following. Face coverings and social distancing required.
