James E. Cobery, 84, of Berkley, passed away on June 17, 2022, at home surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Patricia (Griffin) Cobery. “Patsy” was the love of his life whom he met in first grade and was happily married to for nearly 62 years. Born in Fall River, he was the son of the late James and Margaret (Flynn) Cobery.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children: Atty. James Cobery, Jr. (wife Rhonda) of Bristol, RI, Karen Henneberger (husband Mark) of Arlington, VA, Dr. Steven Cobery (wife Jennifer) of Cranston, RI and Marc Cobery (wife Colleen) of Windham, NH; and grandchildren: Lucas, Dana, Holly, Nathan and Lindy Cobery; Katherine Owens, Danielle and Alec Henneberger; Olivia, Tucker, and Chloe Cobery and Aria Jordan; Allyson, Aishling and Erin Cobery.
Jim graduated from B.M.C. Durfee High School in 1956 and served in the U.S. Navy following graduation. James was a grocery manager with Stop and Shop for 42 years. He bowled for many years with the Slade Bowling League and was a member of St. Bernard’s Parish. In retirement, he loved to winter in Florida and travel around the world with his wife and enjoyed visits by his many grandchildren. He also was an avid New England Patriots fan and enthusiastic mall walker with his friends at the Silver City Galleria.
A visitation will be held Monday, June 20, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Auclair Funeral Home, 690 South Main St. Fall River. His funeral will take place on Tuesday, June 21 at 8:45 AM from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at St. Bernard’s Church, Assonet. Military honors and burial will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery.
