Florence (Bartlett) Pregana

Florence B. Pregana, 86, of New Bedford, died peacefully on Monday, January 9, 2023. She was the wife of the late Arthur C. Pregana for 59 years. Florence was born in Fall River to Arthur and Regina Bartlett. She was the youngest of 8 children and attended St. Mathieu Parish School. She was a member of Our Lady’s Sodality and sang in the church choir. Her family was active in St. Mathieu’s and it was there that she married Arthur on May 10, 1958.

Following their marriage, they lived in Fall River and bought their first home on Bradford Avenue with her sister Rita and husband Bob Berube. There Florence and Arthur raised their three children and were active members in St. Louis Parish, in particular the Social Club and the St. Vincent de Paul Society. Florence worked all her life and retired after 25 years from Pediatric Associates of Fall River. In her retirement, she volunteered with Arthur at Sts. Peter and Paul School to be near their two grandchildren.

Florence is survived by her three children: the Rev. Craig A. Pregana, Pastor of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Attleboro; Gail and Jeffrey Souza; and David Pregana and Tucker McNulty; two loving grandchildren, Jameson and Gabrielle Souza; her brother, Arthur Bartlett; and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, Florence was predeceased by her sisters: Eva Michel, Rita Berube, Blanche Soucy, Theresa Bouchard, and her brothers: Normand and Louis Bartlett.

Visitation will be Friday, January 13, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Auclair Funeral Home, 690 South Main St., Fall River. (Masks required and available, if needed.) The funeral Mass will be offered at St. Thomas More Church (Our Lady of Peace Parish), 386 Luther Avenue, Somerset MA, Saturday, January 14 at 10:00 AM. Please meet at the church.

Entombment will be private.

Florence’s family wishes to thank the nurses and staff of St. Michael’s Unit at Sacred Heart Home for their great compassionate care of Florence, as well as the Community Nurse Hospice Care.

Fue en vida la esposa del difunto Arthur C. Pregana durante 59 años. Florence nació en Fall River de sus padres, Arthur y Regina Bartlett. El velorio será el viernes 13 de enero de 6:00 pm a 8:00 pm en Auclair Funeral Home, 690 South Main St., Fall River. (Se requieren máscaras y estarán disponibles, si es necesario). La Misa de cuerpo presente se ofrecerá en la Iglesia St. Thomas More (Parroquia de Nuestra Señora de la Paz), 386 Luther Avenue, Somerset MA, el sábado 14 de enero a las 10:00 a.m. Por favor reúnase en la iglesia.
