Duarte M. Sousa

Duarte M. Sousa, 73, of Fall River, a retired 34 year employee of Gold Medal Bakery, passed away Monday, December 26, 2022.  He was the husband of Maria J. (Gomes) Sousa.  Born in Furnas, St. Michael, Azores, he was the son of the late Mariano C. and Maria C. (Furtado) Sousa.

He loved being around his family.  He adored his grandchildren, they were his life. He also enjoyed his yard, growing vegetables, making pickled onions, and giving them to people.  Overall, his family was his world.

Besides his wife of 51 years, he leaves three children, Ana Cabeceiras (husband Richard), Rosemary Felix (husband Jason) and David Sousa (girlfriend Stephanie Rumsby) and was the father of the late Christine Sousa; three grandchildren, who lovingly called him “Dewey”, Neveah Felix, Isabella Sousa and Lucas Felix; three siblings, Mary Jo Couto, Norberto Sousa and Ana Frazer (husband Brian) and was the brother of the late Joe Sousa; many nieces and nephews and his grand fur babies Sobey and Princess. 

Visitation will be held Thursday, December 29 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Auclair Funeral Home, 690 South Main St. Fall River.  His funeral will be held Friday, December 30 at 9:00 A.M. from the funeral home, with a Funeral Mass at Good Shepherd Church, South Main St., at 10:00 A.M.  Burial will take place at St. Patrick Cemetery, Robeson St.
