ANA MARINA CARRASCAL PÉREZ

IN RELIGIOUS LIFE AS SR. MARINA CARRASCAL

Sr. Marina Carrascal was born on February 14, 1942, to Octavio Carrascal and Emma Perez in Ocaña, Norte de Santander, Colombia. She was the second of 7 children.

She went to high school in Ocana and decided to enter the Congregation of the Dominican Sisters of Charity of the Presentation. She was sent to the USA in 1964 and received her initial formation at their novitiate in Dighton, MA.

Sr. Marina made her first profession of vows on May 30, 1967. Her first assignment was at Madonna Manor in North Attleboro where she cared for the elderly. She was then sent to Puerto Rico and attended Sacred Heart University where she earned her BA in education.

She taught in schools in Bayamon and Vistamar, Puerto Rico and then returned to the USA and attended Texas Southmost College in Brownsville, Texas where she earned a degree in Applied Science. It is in So. Texas that she will spend most of her time and where she will grow to love and minister to migrants, children and those who needed her the most. She taught children in Cotulla, Raymondville, Lasara, Edcouch and Brownsville. She also did some social work at Casa Romero in Brownsville and was part of the Albert Gonzales Head Start School Program. Her generous commitment to the needs of the people in in this southernmost city of Texas along the USA-Mexican Border was admirable as she did it in simplicity and joy.

In 1995, she was transferred to Warwick, Rhode Island and then to Providence, Rhode Island and taught Pre-K at Bishop McVinney Regional School. Following this, in 2013 she served as a Spanish Interpreter at St. Anne’s Hospital in Fall River, MA. In 2014, she returned to Brownsville, Texas doing parish work and continued her work with migrants.

On July 24, 2026 Sr. Marina arrived in Dighton, MA for a community retreat and visit with the sisters when she fell ill and was brought to St. Anne’s Hospital. She was later transferred to Rhode Island Hospital for brain surgery and then to Hospice Care where she died on August 1, 2026.

Sr. Marina is survived by 2 sisters, Fanny Carrascal Perez and Gladys Carrascal Perez and several nieces and nephews who live in Colombia.

All are invited to her visitation Monday, August 3, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Dominican Sister's of the Presention, 3012 Elm St. Dighton.

Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, August 4, at 10:00 AM at the Dominican Sister's of The Presentation.

 Committal prayers and burial will follow graveside at Notre Dame Cemetery, Fall River.
