Sheila I. (Daley) Vanasse, 88, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2026, at Charlton Memorial Hospital. Born on March 22, 1938, in Fall River, Massachusetts, Sheila was the wife of the late George A. Vanasse, and the late Raymond Cartier, and the daughter of the late William J. Daley Jr and Mary Ellen (Foley) Daley.
Her education began at Sts. Peter and Paul Parish, followed by Mount Saint Mary's Academy.
Sheila started working as a Medical Secretary for Dr. Daniel Mooney, MD. She then worked for Anderson Little in Walnut Hill, Woonsocket, Rhode Island. For more than 30 years, Sheila demonstrated her exceptional organizational skills and caring nature as she oversaw the daily operations and cared for the needs of residents at the Priests Hostel and Catholic Memorial Home in Fall River until her retirement.
Beyond her professional achievements, Sheila found joy and solace in a variety of hobbies and interests. She was an avid rug hooker, solving intricate puzzles, playing dice games, and engaging in lottery tickets and game shows—activities which reflected her lively spirit and sharp mind. Sheila’s passion for New England sports teams was well known among family and friends, a source of countless shared moments and enthusiasm.
Sheila is survived by her children, Mary Lou Cartier-Provenzano and her husband Dr. Brian Miller of Saunderstown, Rhode Island and Jeffrey Cartier and his wife Lisa of Scituate, Rhode Island; and her granddaughter, Cayla Cartier (fiancé Tony Stafford) of North Providence, Rhode Island. She was predeceased by her only sister, Mary Esther Rodrigues.
Sheila also leaves her nephew, Rev. William M. Rodrigues, Pastor of St. Anthony and St. Jude the Apostle Parish, and niece, Ellen Zontini and her husband Michael, and their children Sophia and Sarah Zontini of Yarmouthport, MA. Her love extended even to her cherished grand fur babies, Mollie and Ellie Mae, whom she adored.
Among those who cherished her were her devoted caretakers, Cindy Paiva, Amie Carvalho, and Ellen Malnerich, whose compassion and support were a comfort during her later years.
Visitation will be held Monday, June 1, 2026 from 8:30 to 10:00 AM at the Auclair Funeral Home, 690 South Main St. Fall River, with her Funeral Mass following at Saint Thomas More Church, Somerset, at 11:00 AM. Burial will be private.
