Ronald Gardner, 78, of Tiverton, RI, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family. Born Edward Ferreira on September 25th, 1946 to Juliette Irene (Chace) and Edward Ferreira, he was adopted by his stepfather Ernest Gardner. In 1965, after he graduated from Robert E. Fitch Senior High School, Groton CT, Ronald enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving as a computer programmer and earning the rank of Master Sergeant.
He did his tour in Vietnam July 1968 to July 1969, retiring from the Air Force in 1987. He then worked for the US Postal Service as a Letter Carrier, retiring in 2005. He was a proud member of the VFW Post 5319, Tiverton as well as a member of Fall River Lodge of Elks, Post 118 and the National Association of Letter Carriers. He loved music, literature, all sports including being an avid fan of the Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics, (and a hater of the Yankees!) A great listener, he was known for his quiet demeanor and quick wit.
He was the proud father of Angela-Michelle Regan (husband Brian), Bobby Gardner (wife MaryJo Stocco) and Kevin Gardner; the grandfather of Brittany Hunt, Nik Gardner, Adam Gardner, Peter Gardner, Monica Gardner and Joseph Gardner and the great-grandfather of Aleeah Hunt and Christopher Hunt, and the brother of Debra Gagnon.
He was proceded in death by his siblings George Gardner, Edward Ferreira and Victoria Ferreira.
Visitation will be held on Monday, July 7, from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Auclair Funeral Home, 690 South Main Street, Fall River, MA.
His funeral service will be Tuesday, July 8 at 11:00 AM in the funeral home. The family will greet guests starting at 9:30 AM. Burial will be private.
