Listen to Obituary

Robert A. Auclair, Esq., 72, of Media, husband of the late Francine Hoft Auclair, passed away on Saturday, May 9, 2026. Born in Fall River, MA, he was the son of the late Albert G. and Alice (Rioux) Auclair.

A wonderful jokester, witty, warm, and expansive, Bob approached life with an inviolable joy and thoughtfulness, earning the respect and admiration of colleagues and friends who appreciated his first-rate mind, reliability, loyalty, humility, kindness, and remarkable capacity for enduring friendships.

Bob had a true gift for storytelling and a profound appreciation for the moments and people that shaped his life. He especially relished time with his three grandchildren, whom he was crazy about. He marveled watching them excel at sports and school.

The relationship he had with his cherished daughter was that of her greatest champion and inspiration. Those who knew him will remember his sweet nature, impeccable sense of timing, generous spirit, and the often quiet, unassuming way he moved through the world.

He was as steady as they come. He leaves behind a loving family, devoted friends and colleagues, and a community woven into the fabric of his everyday life. Bob was an ardent reader of politics and history, immersing himself in countless nonfiction masterpieces, of which he could talk for hours, meticulously excavating the layers and retelling the essential stories in exquisite detail.

Bob loved being near the water, and spending time in Ocean View, DE, was deeply pleasurable to him. Listening to music, drinking a good cup of coffee, watching the Phillies and Eagles, being dazzled by eclectic works of art, and intimate conversations meant the world to him.

Bob practiced law for over 30 years, representing businesses in transactions, litigation, compliance, real estate, employment, health care, and dispute resolution matters. In addition to his private practice, he served in various court and government roles, including with the Pennsylvania Court of Judicial Discipline, the Delaware County Court of Common Pleas, and as Delaware County Recorder of Deeds. Bob was known for his hands-on approach, helping clients solve problems, grow their businesses, and connect with trusted professional advisors. He had extensive experience in the health care industry, advising hospitals, physicians, treatment facilities, and trade associations, and led major hospital and medical program transactions. A strong advocate for alternative dispute resolution, Bob served nationwide as a mediator and arbitrator in health care, business, employment, real estate, and personal injury matters. He was also selected as one of the inaugural members of the American Health Lawyers Association Exclusive Roster of Mediators.

Bob was the father of Allison Marshaleck (husband Jonathan); and grandfather to Shane, Grant & Claire Marshaleck who referred to him as Pépère. He is also survived by his sister Paulette Barselou. He was predeceased by his brother Charles Auclair and his sister Elizabeth Cookson. He also leaves behind many cousins, nieces, and nephews whom he loved deeply.
