Rita L. (Clynes) Smith

August 17, 1931 — July 19, 2022

Rita L. (Clynes) Smith, 90, of Westport, died on Tuesday, July 19, 2022 at Sarah Brayton Nursing Home. She was the wife of the late Richard J. Smith for 37 years.

Born in Fall River, daughter of the late Stephen and the late Imelda (St. Yves) Clynes, she lived in Fall River for many years, and in Westport since 1971.

During her career, she was employed at Essex Manufacturing and New England Telephone. She was an advocate for the Telephone Pioneers of America.

She is survived by her nieces: Karen Novacek, Debra Clynes, Tracy Fisher, Lori Cavanaugh, Anne Marie Johnson and Patricia Lentz;

She was also the sister of the late Charles Clynes, Stephen Clynes, and Imelda Fisher; and aunt of the late Madeline Clynes and Charles Clynes Jr.

Visitation will be held Thursday morning, July 21, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM at the Auclair Funeral Home, 690 South Main Street, Fall River, MA. Her funeral service will be celebrated at 11:30 AM in the funeral home with burial to follow at Notre Dame Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, stjude.org.
