Swansea

Richard W. Pain, 64, of Swansea, passed away on Saturday, May 30, 2026.

Born in Fall River, Richard was the son of the late Normand J Pain and Norma Jean Oliveira.

Throughout his life, Richard was blessed with the love of two families. Following his parents' divorce during his youth, he became a cherished member of the Tew Family, who welcomed him into their home and hearts. The bonds he formed with them remained strong throughout his life, and he shared a special relationship with their children, whom he loved as nieces and nephews.

At the same time, he maintained a close connection with his biological family, enjoying time with his siblings, relatives, and loved ones over the years. He treasured the relationships he had with both families and considered himself fortunate to be surrounded by so many people who loved and cared for him.

Richard graduated from Joseph Case High in 1979 and then pursued higher education, earning a degree in Water Waste Management from Bristol Community College. His studies underscored a thoughtful approach to the natural world and its preservation, a theme that resonated throughout his life.

Outside of his professional and academic achievements, Richard embraced an active and joyful lifestyle. He was a valued member of dart and bowling leagues, where camaraderie and friendly competition brought him joy and a sense of connection. His love for the outdoors was evident in his enthusiasm for camping, particularly at Franconia Notch in New Hampshire—a place where the tranquility and beauty of nature enriched his spirit. He was also a motorcycle enthusiast and loved to ride. Richard also enjoyed NASCAR. Richard's companionship extended beyond human friendships to include his cherished pet dogs, specifically Tasha Marie "Tippy Toes" and his pet snake “Houdini.”

Richard is survived by his sisters, Gail Duell (husband Keith), Barbara Murphy (husband John); his nephew Christopher Cournoyer (wife Christy), and their children JJ, Jennifer, and Christian; his family in West Virgina, Mrs. Nell Tew (late husband Duane), and their children Pat Campion, and Duane Tew Jr.; Amanda Tew and her daughters Syrena and Jaylee; as well as many aunts uncles and neices and nephew.
