Obituary for Charles Saber, Jr.

CHARLES SABER, JR, of New Bedford, MA, formerly of Fall River and Somerset, 82, passed away at home on March 16, 2018, after a long illness. He was the loving husband of Rosemary (Medeiros) Saber and son of the late Charles and Lena (Latouf) Saber. Born and raised in Fall River, he was a graduate of Durfee High School, where he excelled at drafting and as a drummer in the Marching Band. A well-known local musician, Mr. Saber played drums with Color Vox, The Jardinnaires and Charley and Company, a band he founded and directed.
He worked in manufacturing at Harvey Probber Company in Fall River, and was Vice President of Manufacturing at Modular Panel Company in New Bedford. With his family, Mr. Saber also operated several area businesses, including Saber Oil and The Surfside at Horseneck Beach. A lifelong member of Calvary United Presbyterian Church, he was a 32nd-degree Master Mason and a 60-year member of King Philip Lodge AF & AM.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Saber is survived by his son Charles Saber, III and his wife Joanne; his daughter Victoria M. Saber; granddaughters Jilian, Jocelyn, and Jana Saber; sisters Edna Smith, Freda Thomas, and Gabrielle Tanber; in-laws Alice Saber and Terry Tanber; and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his brother Elias L. Saber.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Community Nurse Home Care for their compassionate care and assistance.
Family and friends are welcome to a Celebration of Life on Sunday, May 6, at 12:00 noon, at Calvary United Presbyterian Church, 216 Harrison Street, Fall River, MA. Luncheon to follow. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Auclair Funeral Home.
