Nedia de Sousa

Nedia (Cordeiro) de Sousa, 68, of Tiverton, formerly of East Providence, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, May 16, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family and closest friends, after a long and courageous battle with esophageal cancer.

Nedia was the beloved wife of the late Manuel de Sousa, with whom she shared nearly 50 years of marriage before his passing in 2023. Together, they built a life centered on love and family. 

Born in Fenais de Ajuda, São Miguel, Azores, she was the daughter of the late Antonio and Cecilia da Couto. Nedia worked for many years as a bank teller, but her true gift was caring for the people around her. Her love for crafts and her flair for organization made her home a warm and welcoming place to all who entered. 

Nothing brought Nedia more happiness than spending time with her grandchildren, her “cutie pies,” Caitlyn (13) and Matthew (9). They were the light of her life, and she treasured every moment spent with them. Even through the difficult challenges of recent years, Nedia faced each day surrounded by the unwavering love of her family and friends. She will be remembered for her kind heart, quiet strength, and the love she gave to those around her.

She leaves behind her loving son, Derek DeSousa, and his wife, Kelly, of Tiverton; her cherished grandchildren, Caitlyn and Matthew; her siblings, Zinalia Sousa of Bristol, Donna Biscardi of Riverside, and Nelson Couto of East Providence; and her best friend of more than 50 years, Sandy Pereira, who was truly like a sister to her. 

Her love, warmth, and presence will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved her.

Her funeral and visitation will be held on Thursday, May 21, 2026, from 9:30 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. at the Auclair Funeral Home, 690 S. Main Street, Fall River, MA, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 A.M. at St. Theresa Church, 265 Stafford Road, Tiverton, RI. Burial will follow at Notre Dame Cemetery, Stafford Road, Fall River, MA.
