With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Michael S. “Turtle” Rego, 67, of Fall River, MA, on Tuesday, June 16th, 2026.

Mike began his career as a painter at the age of 18, a trade he dedicated himself to for many years. He took immense pride in his work and completed countless painting projects for customers, family, and friends, always delivering spectacular results and leaving a lasting impression on those he worked with.

From a very young age, Mike developed a love for the ball field, starting with baseball and later finding his true passion for softball. Beginning at age 18, he played the game for close to 50 years, spending many seasons at his home away from home, Father Kelly Park. Known for bringing his own unique “Turtle” twist to the game, Mike’s presence on the field was always unforgettable. Over the years, his teammates became more than friends—they became lifelong brothers.

Mike played for many different teams and leagues throughout the softball community across Massachusetts and Rhode Island, forming lasting bonds wherever he went. His intense passion for the game also brought him to compete in tournaments in Florida and Nevada, creating memories and friendships that spanned far beyond the local fields he loved.

Mike was also a lifelong, die-hard New York Yankees fan, as well as an avid fan of the Miami Dolphins and Boston Celtics, proudly following his teams throughout the years.

In his free time, Mike found his greatest joy in spending time with his daughter, her fiancé, and his beloved grand dogs. Being a father was the role he held closest to his heart; he took immense pride in the life and bond he shared with his daughter. Those moments together meant everything to him and will be cherished forever.

Mike is survived by his daughter, Talia E. Rego, and her fiancé, Justin DeSousa; his sisters, Arlene Rego, Paula Moniz, and her husband, Fred Moniz. He was the son of the late Eileen Rego.

Mike’s visitation will be held on Friday, June 26, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Auclair Funeral Home, 690 South Main St., Fall River, MA.

“Turtle” will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and the entire softball community. His fiery spirit, humor, and love for the game will live on in every season played and every memory shared on the field he called home.
