Michael Wayne Pacheco of Bristol RI, died at the Heatherwood Nursing Center of Newport RI on June 07,2022 after a brief illness. He was born July 30,1942 In New Bedford, Massachusetts and lived there most of his life. He was the son of the late Elsie Sousa Pacheco and Manuel Pacheco of New Bedford. Mr. Pacheco was married to the late Joan M. Pacheco (Fernandez), who was the love of his life. He leaves behind a son, Michael Pacheco Jr. of Tilton NH. He was a loving stepfather for 50 years to Marjorie Helger of Tiverton RI, Maureen Frates of Easthampton MA and Mark Picanso of New Bedford MA. Mr. Pacheco has four grandchildren; Happy Frates Montague of Easthampton MA, Erick Dupree of Philadelphia PA, Julia Dupree of New Bedford MA and Katie Helger of Tiverton RI. He also has two great-grandchildren; Alexandria and Aurelia Montague of Easthampton MA. Mr. Pacheco attended New Bedford Schools and was employed by Chamberlain Manufacturing as a supervisor making ammunition and artillery shells. He then worked for many years at The Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company until it closed. Mr. Pacheco worked for the City of New Bedford and was a corrections officer for the downtown Police station. He was very proud of his work with the Police department and was proud to serve in that capacity until his retirement. Mr. Pacheco used to belong to a bowling league at Wonder Bowl in New Bedford. He was known to bowl a game of 200 consistently and won many championship games. He was an avid pool player and card player, excelling in both. He played cribbage, canasta and poker several times per week. Mr. Pacheco loved to salt water fish and did that every morning during the spring and summer months. Mr. Pacheco attended the Fall River Church of Christ and loved his church family. He was the greeter for parishioners and had other duties that he enjoyed taking part in at the church. Michael will be missed so much! The family wishes to thank all of the staff at Heatherwood Rehabilitation and Health Care Center for their excellent care and to Beacon Hospice for their compassion and guidance during a difficult time.
