It is with great sadness that we announce Mary Rin Buth, age 94, has passed away peacefully on September 12, 2025, with her loving children, niece, and grandchildren by her side.
Born in Cambodia, she was the daughter of the late Beav Norng and Cheus Phon. She was part of a big family with many siblings and 12 children of her own. She survived the Cambodian genocide and migrated to the United States with only 4 of her children. After almost a decade of settling into this country, she lost 2 more children due to accidents. Although losing her late daughter, Neth Yam, caused her much devastation, she still found enough strength to take in her grandchildren and raise them herself. Mary dedicated her whole life to her living children and grandchildren. She never remarried, learned English, became a citizen, and worked many jobs until her grandchildren needed her full-time care.
Mary is known as the neighborhood’s grandma. She spent most of her life residing in Lowell, Lynn, and Fall River. She had an amazing sense of humor and was passionate about helping those in need. She always made sure none of the kids in her neighborhood went hungry or homeless. She rescued and rehabbed animals. She enjoyed dancing, arts and crafts, listening to music, trying new skincare regimens, and being on her iPad. She loved her large family and especially adored her great-grandchildren. She loved going to church and always kept the Bible close to her heart. One of her prized memories was Sunday church services with her granddaughters and great-granddaughters.
Mary is survived by her children, Ny Yam (Chan Chey), Thy Yam (Annie Chau), and Lydia Yam (Carrie Mak); her grandchildren: Dingsit Yam, Reaksmey Yam, Ponleurith Yam, Charley Yam, Frankie Yam, Nautica Yam, Rathana Neth, Rothanac Yam, Rathany Neth, Rathavy Neth, Rothsomnang Neth, Theresa Neth, Elizabeth Mao, Michelle Mao, Cecilia Mao, Aldous Cheam, Jennifer Mak; her sister, KimLeng Norng; and many nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren.
Funeral procession will be leaving Auclair Funeral Home, 690 South Main Street, Fall River, at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 27, 2025. A service will be held at 12:00 PM in the Swan Point Cemetery Chapel of Hope and Memory, 585 Blackstone Blvd., Providence, RI. Cremation to follow.
