Maria C. Couto

Maria C. (Sousa) Couto, 81, of Fall River, passed away on Thursday, December 11, 2025, with her family by her side.

She was born in Ribeira Grande, St. Michael, Azores. Maria was employed in the garment industry.

She leaves two sons, Jose Manuel Couto and Carlos Michael Couto and his wife Cheryl; a grandson, Aaron Michael Couto; a granddaughter, Jocelyne Marie Couto; and many nieces and nephews.

She was the daughter of the late Manuel Sousa Jr. and Maria Olinda (DoRego Maroto) Sousa. Maria was the last of 7 siblings.

Maria’s faith was extremely important to her, she loved to attend church and watch the Portuguese masses on television. She was a parishioner at Espírito Santo Church in Fall River.

She loved to listen to Portuguese music and watch the Portuguese folklore dance groups at the feasts. Her greatest love was cooking for her family, especially her grandchildren, making their favorite dish “Arroz con Gallinho”.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, December 16 from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Auclair Funeral Home, 690 South Main St. Fall River.

Her funeral service will take place Wednesday, December 17, at 10:30 AM in the funeral home.

Family will greet guests starting at 9:30 AM.

Burial will take place in Saint Patrick Cemetery.
