Manuel J. Martins

Manuel J. Martins, 85, of Summit St., Fall River, husband of the late Laura (Carvalho) Martins, died peacefully, at home, Thursday, December 8, 2011. An Army, 101st. Airborne veteran of WW II, he was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Tiverton. He enjoyed fishing and traveling. A member of the Teamsters Union, he was employed by trucking companies including Arrow Transportation. Born in Padros, Chamoim, Terras de Bouro, Portugal, the son of the late Francisco and Tereza (Afonso) Martins, he leaves four children, Thomas J. Martins and his wife Linda of Westport, David Martin and his wife Diane of No. Providence, Brenda Trenholm and her husband Albert of Tiverton, and Steven R. Martins of Attleboro; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; a sister, Maria DaSilva of Fall River; and nieces and nephews. He was the grandfather of the late Eric S. Martins; and the brother of the late Rose Rodrigues and Joseph and Fernando Martins. His funeral will be held Monday at 8:00 AM from the AUCLAIR FUNERAL HOME, 690 So. Main St., Fall River, with a funeral mass in Good Shepherd Church at 9:00 AM. Burial, Notre Dame Cemetery. Visitation, Sunday 4:00 to 8:00 PM.
