Listen to Obituary

Madeline Donna (Carreiro) Greenwood, age 79, passed away on Wednesday, November 26, 2025.

She was the wife of Lawrence J. Greenwood and was married for 42 years. Madeline was born in Fall River, and was the daughter of the late Manuel and Lena Carreiro. She was the sister of Manuel Carreiro, Jr.

Madeline graduated from Case High School in Swansea, Massachusetts, class of 1964. Upon graduation she immediately enrolled in cosmetology school at The Fall River Beauty Academy. After completion, she worked at a few different salons including, Regis, Lorenzo’s, and The Mr. Louis salon. While crafting her skills and taking advanced color classes in Massachusetts and New York she became a color specialist for Clairol Hair Color, at which point she opened her own salon named

The Haircuttery. During this time period while attending Grace Gospel Church she was introduced to her husband and dream partner Larry Greenwood. Madeline and Larry were introduced by his late sister Beverly Walker. With Larry’s support, The Haircuttery grew and relocated to a larger location, which Madeline proudly operated for over 20 years. The business success was jointly due to the women she partnered with, all of whom became life-long friends.

Madeline volunteered her time at local organizations dear to her, Clifton Nursing Facility in Somerset and The Women’s Center for Domestic Abuse in Fall River. She was also a member of The Lioness Club, The Holiday Lanes women’s bowling league, and was on the cosmetology advisory board at Durfee High School.

Her joys outside of work included reading (Daniel Steele being her favorite author), crocheting, knitting, and traveling every year with Larry (her favorite locations were always in the Caribbean Islands, and Florida). Later in life, she enjoyed trips to Foxwoods and going to music shows and the theater. Most precious to Madeline was spending time with her grandchildren and her family, as well as with her girlfriends. She was always eager to host get-togethers, she loved to cook for those she cared for and would always make way too much food. She was always ready for a laugh as well as a game of backgammon or cards, and loved summer clam boils.

She was the mother of Richard A. Dumas, Timothy P. Dumas and Nicole McIntyre (husband Ward); Stepmother to Shaun C. Greenwood (wife Jean), and Courtney B. Reichert; Grandmother to Rowan L. McIntyre, Waylin G. McIntyre, Timothy P. Gousie, Haley B. Greenwood, Nathan D. Reichert, Payton R. Reichert, and the late Kendall R. Reichert; Great-Grandmother to Stella R. Villella, and Aunt to many nephews and nieces.
