Lawrence “Larry” R. Barnwell, 82, of Swansea, passed away on August 16, 2026. He was the loving husband to Susan (Cote) for 59 years. He was the father of Robert (wife Kimberly) and Jason, and a loving grandfather to Jonathan and Jillian. He was the son of the late Lawrence and Doris (Messier) Barnwell. He is survived by his siblings, Fr. Gerald Barnwell, Stephen Barnwell, and Sheila Sullivan (spouse late Michael Sullivan), and many in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Lawrence was an Airman First Class in the Air Force during the Vietnam War and Cuban Missile Crisis. He went on to earn an Associates of Science in Electromechanical Technology from Bristol Community College. He was the supervisor of the Instruments and Control Laboratory and Electrical Shop at Montaup Electric.
Larry enjoyed game nights and breakfast with friends, travelling, visiting casinos, and spending time with family. He will always be remembered for his corny sense of humor and love of dad jokes, which he passed down to his sons.
A visitation will be held Sunday, August 23 from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Auclair Funeral Home, 690 South Main St. Fall River.
His funeral will be held Monday, August 24 at 8:45 AM from the funeral home, with a Funeral Mass at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 530 Gardner's Neck Rd. Swansea, at 10:00 AM.
Burial will follow at Vinnicum Woods Cemetery, Swansea.
