John Macedo, 59, a beloved husband, devoted father, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully after a courageous four year battle with cancer on Thursday, October 24, 2024, in his home in Westport surrounded by his beloved family. John was born in Ponta Delgada, St. Michael, Azores on January 1, 1965, John's life was a tapestry woven with love, dedication, and laughter.
John embarked on a fulfilling career as a Maintenance Engineer with the Bristol County House of Correction. John’s dedication to his work spanned over three decades, showcasing not just his skill, but also his unwavering commitment to his colleagues and the community he served. Even in his retirement, forced by illness, he remained an integral part of the world he had dedicated so much to.
John's warmth and kindness extended well beyond the workplace. He was a devoted family man, celebrating 32 wonderful years of marriage to his beloved wife, Cheryl (Avilla) Macedo. Together they built a home filled with love and joy, raising two daughters, Lauryn and Abbey, who, along with Cheryl, were the center of his world.
John also leaves his mother, Maria 'Odelia" (Reis) Macedo, father in-law and mother-in-law, Lt. Edward F. Avilla, FRFD, Ret. and Irene (Rapoza) Avilla, and nieces and nephews.
John found solace in the simple pleasures—manicuring his yard to perfection, love for camping, cheering passionately for the New England Patriots and the Boston Bruins, and enjoying the companionship of his Labrador Retriever, Remy, who remained faithfully by his side.
He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Macedo, and his siblings, Anna Pavao Macedo and Jeffrey Macedo. Their memory will forever live within the hearts of those who loved them, creating a bond that transcends forever.
Visitation will be held Monday, October 28, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Auclair Funeral Home, 690 South Main St. Fall River.
His funeral will be held Tuesday, October 29 at 8:45 AM from the funeral home, with a Funeral Mass at St.George Church, Westport, at 10:00 AM. Burial to follow at St. Patrick Cemetery, Fall River.
