John L. Gomes, Jr., 65, of Fall River, passed away on Sunday, July 13, 2025.
Born in Fall River, John was the son of the late Pauline (Cardoza) and Joao Gomes.
John dedicated his career to the fisheries in the New Bedford area, where he contributed significantly to the industry. His work not only spoke to his strong work ethic but also reflected his commitment to the community in which he lived.
Beyond his professional life, John was an avid chess player, enjoying the strategic challenges the game presented. He found joy in music and had a particular talent for building model figurines, a hobby that demonstrated his creativity and attention to detail. John cherished moments spent dining out with his family, relishing the company and conversations that accompanied every meal. He also had a deep love for travel, having journeyed across the country to create cherished memories and explore diverse landscapes. John was also a karate enthusiast, and enjoyed perfecting his craft of martial arts.
John is survived by his sisters: Sandra Normandin (husband Michael), Joni Rogers (husband Steve), Paula J. Carreiro (husband Steve Berney), Janet Carvalho, Norman Gomes (wife Mary Jo), and Denise Roman (husband Mark); his nieces and nephews, Michael, Steven, Joseph, David, Keith, Krystle, Kristina, Christopher, Norman Jr., Nicole; as well as great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Ann Gomes. The bonds he shared with his family were integral to his life, and he will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
As we remember John Gomes, Jr., we celebrate a life well-lived, filled with passion for his work, happiness in his hobbies, and unwavering love for his family. May his memory continue to inspire those who knew and loved him.
