Johanna Assad

Johanna Assad passed away on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, after a brief illness, at the age of 101. Widow of Aseeb S. “Charlie” Assad, with whom she shared 62 of marriage until his death in 200, Johanna was the eldest child of the late William and Najeebie (Sahady) Assad. She was born in Fall River on March 18, 1925, and lived in Zaarourieh, Lebanon, briefly during her childhood. She attended Aldrich School, Davis School, and Durfee High School, and worked at Shelburne Shirt, until moving to Westport in 1957.

A lifelong communicant of St. Anthony of the Desert Maronite Catholic Church, Johanna was blessed with robust good health and the fruits of the Holy Spirit throughout her lifetime. She enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, crocheting, Sudoku, Scrabble, reading, and playing cards. Other favorite pastimes were boating on the Westport River in the Johanna A and gathering with friends at East Beach. Her happiest times were spent in the company of her children, grandchildren, great-grandson, siblings, nieces, nephews, and beloved friends.

She will be remembered with love by her son Attorney David M. Assad and his wife Pastor April Saber-Assad; her grandchildren, Samuel S. Assad and his wife Nicolle, and Alissa N. Assad; her great-grandson, James P. Assad; her sister, Louise Monsour; her brother Roger Assad and his wife Charlotte; her sister-in-law Mary Assad, and nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son Dr. Charles Assad, her brother Faheem Assad and her sister Gloria Haddad.

Relatives and friends are welcome to attend her Visitation on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, from 9:30 to 10:30 AM at St. Anthony of the Desert Maronite Catholic Church, 300 North Eastern Avenue, Fall River, MA 02723, with her Funeral Liturgy immediately following. Burial at Notre Dame Cemetery.
