Jeannette M. Souza

Jeanette M. Souza died Wednesday morning at Catholic memorial Home in Fall River, Massachusetts. She was 96. She was the daughter of Alice (Ouellette) Souza and John Souza, formerly of Fall River, Massachusetts.

Jeanette was born in Brooklyn, New York where she lived most of her life. She was employed as an Executive Secretary for Wasau Insurance in New York City.

She enjoyed her retirement years traveling all over Europe, Turkey, cruised all over the Caribbean and pilgrimages to Jerusalem, Lourdes, Fatima, Medjugorje,   and the harvest festival (Erntedankfest) in Germany with her friends and cousin Jeanette. She also managed to fit in several trips to Las Vegas. Jeanette was also a great tour guide for anyone visiting Manhattan.

She volunteered for many years at her parish church St. Thomas Aquinas in Brooklyn, collecting and counting the budget envelopes every weekend. She also was a volunteer at the Methodist Hospital in New York City.

She was an avid card player, especially the game of High-Low-Jack.

Baseball was her sport, she loved watching the Brooklyn Dodgers and the New York Mets. She and her friend Millie even got to throw out a ball at one of the Met's games.

As an only child, her family and cousins were very important to her. She and her parents would often travel to Fall River Massachusett and Nashua, New Hampshire for family get-togethers.

In her later years of life, she was a resident of the All-American assisted living facility in Raynham, Massachusetts. But her heart was still in Brooklyn on 4th Avenue.

She was a woman with a lot of love and a lot of heart who always put others before herself.

She leaves behind her cousins, Faith, Thomas, Donald, Paula, Robert, and Leo Chamberlain, Annette Gamache and Bruce Hague.

Friends and relatives are invited to a visitation on Saturday from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Auclair Funeral Home, 690 South Main St. Fall River.  Her Funeral Mass will follow at Holy Name Church, Hanover Street, at 11:30. Burial will be in Long Island, New York.
