James Hoag

May 1, 1951 — June 5, 2022

James "Jim" Hoag, 71, of Somerset passed away peacefully after a courageous 27-year battle with Parkinson’s Disease. He is pre-deceased by his beloved wife, Christine, and their Scottish Terrier, Oscar. Jim worked hard in several of Fall River’s factories to support his family. More recently, he served as a traffic control officer with the City of Fall River making friends by giving out parking tickets. He took his job so seriously that he once ticketed a police car for parking in front of a fire hydrant. When the off-duty police officer, on his way to lunch, asked, “do you know that’s a police car?” Jim quickly responded, “do you know that’s a fire hydrant?” Jim once enjoyed playing golf and watching it on television, which his late wife thought was the equivalent of watching paint dry. He also loved his favorite football team, the Dallas Cowboys, and hockey team, the Boston Bruins.

Jim is survived by his daughter, Stacy of Attleboro, son, Jamie, and son-in-law Eric, both of Watertown, sister-in-law, Linda, and brother-in-law, Ron, both of Swansea. He was also proud to be an extended member of the Shupin family of Florida and New Jersey. In addition to his late wife, Jim is also pre-deceased by his mother, Helen (Burke) Hayes, brother, David Hoag, and his beloved grandparents, James a.k.a. “Pops” and Loretta Burke.

The family wants to thank the staff at Somerset Ridge Nursing Home for their care, especially Guilhermina, who is a living saint. In lieu of flowers donations can be sent to the Michael J. Fox Foundation in support of their work to find a cure for Parkinson’s Disease. In lieu of donations you can just be kind to someone in need.

Services will be private.
