Hyalkiria Pereira

 Hyalkiria “Kitty” (Amaral) Pereira, 85, of New Bedford, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 10, 2026. She was the devoted wife of Manoel A. Pereira, with whom she shared a loving marriage of more than 64 years.

Born in Ilha do Governador, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Hyalkiria was the beloved daughter of the late Hyalker Amaral and Vanda (Duarte) Amaral. Her journey brought her to New Jersey before she eventually settled in New Bedford in 1973.

Hyalkiria’s life revolved around her family, who meant the world to her. She had a passion for cooking, singing, music, and dancing, and was known for her warmth, generosity, and exceptional hospitality. In her younger years, she was a talented singer who competed in Brazil. She was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

She is survived by her cherished husband, Manoel; her four children, Anthony Pereira, Wanda Medeiros of Charlotte Court House, Virginia, Frank Pereira, and Christine Brizard, with Anthony, Frank, and Christine residing in New Bedford; her four treasured grandchildren, Devin Medeiros of Virginia, Melanie Medeiros of New York, Felishia Pereira and Brandon Pereira of New Bedford.

She also leaves behind her siblings, Hyvalker of Rio de Janeiro and Hydalker II of New York, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Hyalkiria was predeceased by her son, Joseph Pereira, and her brothers, Hyalker Amaral of New Jersey, and Hyzalker and Hydalker Amaral of Rio de Janeiro.

Hyalkiria will be remembered for the love she gave so freely to her family, her generous spirit, and the warmth she brought into the lives of everyone who knew her. Her memory and legacy will live on in all who loved her.
