Gertrude M. Aguiar, 75, of Fall River, passed away on Thursday, May 1, 2025 with her son David by her side.
Gertrude was a graduate of the Class of 1968 from B.M.C. Durfee High School. She worked diligently throughout her career, contributing her talents to the Fall River Knitting Mills and Aetna Life and Casualty Insurance. She also took pride in running and operating South End Sunoco in Fall River and Rene's Sunoco in Tiverton alongside her former spouse. Her work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit served as an inspiration to those around her.
Outside of her professional endeavors, Gertrude embraced life's simple pleasures. She had a profound love for gardening, particularly enjoying the care and nurturing of her roses, which reflected her vibrant personality. The holidays were a cherished time for her, as she hosted family gatherings filled with warmth and laughter.
An avid boater when she was younger, Gertrude found peace on the water, and her passion for cooking often brought family and friends together around the table. She also delighted in traveling, exploring new places and creating memories along the way.
Gertrude is survived by her beloved son, David St. Laurent, and his companion Holly Avilla; her granddaughters, Antoinette "Toni" St. Laurent and Cora Ann St. Laurent; Holly's children, Michayla Plant and Nicholas James; her siblings, Steven Aguiar (wife Mary); Susan Zielke (husband Paul); and Judith Aguiar (wife Ann); and her sisters-in-law, Patricia Aguiar, Lynn Aguiar, Theresa Aguiar and Diane Aguiar.
Gertrude was predeceased by her parents, Henry C. and Hilda (Amarello) Aguiar, her brothers: James D. Aguiar, Paul H. Aguiar, Ronald Aguiar, and David Aguiar; and her German Shepherd, Greta. She was the former wife of Rene R. St. Laurent.
Her impact will be felt by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Gertrude's spirit of love and kindness will continue to resonate in the hearts of her family and friends as they remember the joy she brought to their lives.
