George L. Sherman, Jr, 90, of Somerset, MA, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Born and raised in Fall River, George was the son of the late George and Helen (Harrington) Sherman. He spent 64 happy years with his beloved wife Charlotte, who passed away in the summer of 2024.
He is survived by his sister Patricia Cadorette, son George, and wife Mary Anne, his daughter Elizabeth, granddaughter Vanessa, and her fiancé Cameron Christo, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Noreen Malloy.
With an art degree from Bradford Durfee Tech, George pursued a career in advertising, eventually becoming an art director for Zayre department stores. He proudly served in the National Guard and was called to active duty during the Berlin Crisis.
For many years, he was an active parishioner at St. Anne’s parish in Fall River, where he served as Eucharistic Minister and Lector. George was a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Fr. Joseph Boer Council in Tiverton, RI. He made many lifelong friends at the Knights, helped organize and run many “International Night” dances, and was a member of the camping club.
George will be remembered for his cheerful spirit, kindness, and immense love and support for his family. He was happiest when surrounded by his family and many friends. George never missed an opportunity for good conversation and won over everyone he met with his playful sense of humor and larger-than-life personality.
George enjoyed following the Red Sox, camping, exploring, or simply taking an idyllic “Sunday Drive.” He traveled the country and world with Charlotte.
As a talented artist, he often captured his trips in his watercolor paintings. Many of his loved ones will fondly remember receiving George and Charlotte’s annual Christmas Cards that always included one of his paintings. He also donated his artwork to raise money for the Fall River Historical Society, in the city he loved and called home.
His Funeral Mass will be at St. Louis de France church at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, July 2nd.
