George L. Giroux

George L. Giroux, 96, of Tiverton, passed away on Tuesday, December 2, 2025. He was the husband of the late Rolande (Pelletier) Giroux, with whom he shared 69 years of marriage.

Born in Fall River, he was the son of the late Aldei and Alice (Potvin) Giroux.

For many years, George was a familiar face as a postman on his mail route on Gardner’s Neck in Swansea (the neighbors gave him a parade on his final day), and then behind the counter at the Swansea postal office. His dedication to community did not stop there; he served in the Police Reserve and was a volunteer firefighter for over two decades, showcasing his unwavering commitment to the safety and well-being of his neighbors.

George found joy in nature and adventure, enjoying hobbies that included hunting, canoeing, and traveling. His pride in his French-Canadian heritage was seen in his active membership in the Richelieu Club, and travel to Canada and France with his wife and children. He was also the founder of Stoney Hill Kennels in Swansea, an endeavor that reflected his love for dogs.

He was the father of Gayle A. Thorley (husband Stephen) of Syracuse, NY, Douglas P. Giroux of Swansea, the late Gary G. Giroux, and the late Leslie V. Giroux; father-in-law of Christine Giroux of Bangor, ME; grandfather of Nicole, Leslie, and Max Giroux, Michaela and Luke Thorley, and Justin Murphy; great-grandfather of Caleb Crisman, Mackenzie and Addison Murphy, Cailahnni Duchaney, and Caiya Coulombe; brother of Muriel McManus of New Bedford, and the late Richard Giroux, and Berthe Thibault.

His visitation will be Saturday, December 6, 2025, from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., with a brief ceremony at 5:30 P.M., at the Auclair Funeral Home, 690 S. Main St., Fall River.
