George Michael Cummings, a cherished husband, father, and uncle, passed away on Monday, May 19, 2025, leaving behind a profound legacy of dedication and service. He was the husband of Donna (McCartney) Cummings with whom he shared 52 years of marriage.

Born in Fall River, on October 17, 1949, he was the son of Myrtle (Sherman) and Charles Cummings.

George spent 32 years of his life working diligently in local textile mills, where he made significant contributions as a business agent for Unite. His commitment to labor rights was further demonstrated through his active involvement in the Fall River Labor Council, where he served for ten years, and became Vice President, advocating for the workers' rights and welfare.

A graduate of B.M.C Durfee High School, he continued his education at Bristol Community College. George earned an Associate's degree from B.C.C. He was also a graduate from the George Meaney School of Labor Affairs in Silver Springs, Maryland. His educational background fueled his fervor for labor activism, and he was instrumental in promoting the rights and well-being of countless workers throughout his career.

In addition to his professional achievements, George was a member of the Class A Champions - CYO, a testament to his spirited involvement in community sports since 1969. He was a proud member on the board of directors for Big Brothers and Sisters, as well as the Arnold Dublins Labor Center from 1984 to 1986. He took the initiative to found the Textile Softball League, a beloved organization in which more than eight teams participated, fostering camaraderie and teamwork among players. His passion for sports extended beyond his professional endeavors, as George was an avid New England sports fan, proudly supporting the New York Yankees, Boston Celtics, and New England Patriots. These loyalties brought joy and excitement to his life, connecting him with friends and family through shared moments of triumph and celebration.

George honorably served in the Army and the Army National Guard, a chapter of his life that reflected his dedication to serving his country and community. He is survived by his beloved wife, Donna (McCartney) Cummings, along with many nieces and nephews including Timothy O'Brien, Kelly O'Brien, Kayla Melo, Noah Levreault, and Hailee O'Brien. He joins in eternal rest his son, Michael George Cummings, and his brothers, Robert "Bob" Ciullo and Jeffrey Allan Cummings, who preceded him in death.

George M. Cummings leaves behind a legacy defined by hard work, commitment to community, and an unwavering spirit that will be missed by all who knew him.

His Visitation will be held Saturday, May 24 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Auclair Funeral Home, 690 South Main St. Fall River with a funeral service in the funeral home at 11:00 AM.
