Everett J. Smith, 81, of Fall River, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on April 2, 2026, at Saint Anne’s Hospital. Born on January 23, 1945, in Fall River, he lived a life defined by dedication to his career, and his family.
Everett honorably served in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, he built a distinguished career with the Massachusetts Department of Correction, where he rose through the ranks and retired as a respected Captain.
He pursued his education with the same determination, earning an associate degree from Bristol Community College and a bachelor’s degree in criminology from Roger Williams University.
Outside of his professional life, Everett embraced the simple joys that brought him happiness. He loved country music, dancing—especially at Mischnock Barn or at The Square in The Villages. He enjoyed fishing and boating on his boat Risky Business. He loved spending time with his family and friends. He also enjoyed going out to eat, particularly buffets, and never passed up a chance for ice cream.
Everett shared 62 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Constance (Paiva) Smith, who survives him and was the center of his life. He was the son of the late Samuel Smith and Lillian (Dyer) Smith. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Michael Smith; his daughter, Lisa Smith; his grandchildren, Brooke Texeira, Corey Smith, Nicholas Watt, Justin Van Nostrand, Jada Demenezes, Jaevius Bayrouty, and Jaeden Bayrouty; and his great-granddaughter, Aubrey Smith. He also leaves his siblings, Donald Smith (wife Carol), Wayne Smith (wife Lorraine), and Laurie Smith (husband Bob Fisher), along with many nieces and nephews.
