Donna J. Carney

Donna J. (Shannon) Carney, 73, of Somerset, passed away on Thursday, September 4, 2025. She was the wife of the late Patrick J. Carney, with whom she shared 53 years of marriage. Donna leaves behind a legacy marked by her dedication to nurturing the minds of young children and her compassion for those she served in her community.

Born in Fall River, she was the daughter of the late Lillian (Allaire) and John Shannon. 

Donna’s career began within the Fall River School Department, where she dedicated herself to the education and well-being of students. Her commitment to fostering a supportive learning environment paved the way for her eventual transition into entrepreneurship. Recognizing the need for quality early childhood education, she became the proud owner of Munchin Manor, a beloved child day care center in Somerset. Through her work, Donna created a loving space where children could learn, grow, and play, making a lasting impact on the lives of countless families.

Throughout her life, Donna was known for her joyful spirit, unwavering kindness, and genuine love for others. She approached each day with enthusiasm and a strong desire to make a difference in her community. Her passion for childcare not only shaped the lives of the children she cared for but also inspired those around her to find joy and purpose in their own work.

She is survived by her children, Sean Carney of Somerset, Shannon Donahue (husband Michael) of Barrington; her three grandchildren, Sean and Lillian Carney and Cole Donahue; her siblings John Shannon, Richard Shannon, Dennis Shannon, Michael Shannon, Joseph Shannon, Deborah Valentine, Matthew Shannon, Donald Shannon, Dorie Carvalho, Paul Shannon; and many nieces and nephews. 

Her Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, September 23, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Cathedral, Spring St. Fall River, followed by a burial at Notre Dame Cemetery.
