Fall River

Reverend Leader Dennis Anthony Hunte, 77, of Fall River, MA, passed into eternal life on Wednesday, December 10, 2025. Born on January 18, 1948, in Point Fortin, Trinidad & Tobago. Reverend Leader Dennis Hunte was a man whose life reflected unwavering service, deep faith, and a profound love for family.

As a pastor for over 50 years, he dedicated his life to helping saints come to Christ. His ministry was one of helping the homeless and aiding the deprived and underserved communities. His love for community was evident in the way he cherished his family and the close bonds he formed with his church family.

A lifelong lover of music, Dennis’s passion for melody and rhythm shaped the course of his life. After graduating from Point Secondary School, he continued his education at PFC, and as a teenager, proudly served as the lead singer of the band Johnny and the Birds in San Fernando. His deep appreciation for music followed him to Government Teachers’ College, where his major discipline was music studies, and later to the University of the West Indies, where he graduated in Labour Studies. Grounded in a strong faith in God, Dennis used his education and gifts to serve others, founding the Elite Educational Institute in San Fernando. There, he guided and inspired young adults pursuing business studies through college preparatory courses, opening doors to brighter futures and lasting success. Music, faith, teaching, and service brought Dennis great joy, along with the simple pleasures of sharing his talents, encouraging others, and living a life rooted in purpose and praise.

Cooking was one of Dennis’ deepest joys, a way he expressed care, love, and creativity. His brilliant mind shone through in his talent for chess, and he nurtured his love of the arts through literature, painting, classical music, and the timeless sounds of old-school Kaiso. Playing instruments like the piano and guitar, Dennis filled his home with music. Whether singing “Darling, You Send Me” by Sam Cooke to his wife while playing guitar, or teaching “His Eye is on the Sparrow” to his granddaughter, he used melodies to touch the hearts of those around him. The thing that he cherished the most was reminding anyone he met about the goodness and the glory of God.

Above all, his heart was rooted in Scripture. He read his Bible each day and found comfort and inspiration in listening to sermons online. He was also the founding member of Mt. Carmel Spiritual Baptist Church in Fall River. His deep faith shone through in his leadership at the Mt. Carmel Spiritual Baptist Church, where he nurtured and taught his congregation with the same passion for learning and guidance that defined his career as a teacher.

Dennis is survived by his beloved wife, Joan (Matthews) Hunte, and by his cherished in-laws, Jennylyn Peters, Angela Charles, Lynette Matthews, Gemma Rogers, Gloria Matthews, Mickey Matthews, and their significant others. He leaves behind his devoted children: Dexter Hunte, Sherraine Diaz, Kelly Allong-Alves, Kariam Hunte-Richards, and Cirisha Hunte. His legacy continues through his treasured grandchildren: Kamira Hunte, Javon Conward, ShaiAnn Greene, Ashley Glover, Aaron Alves, Angelina Glover, Adrian Alves, Kyle Conward, Christopher Glover, and Anthony Alves. He is also lovingly remembered by his great-grandchildren, Xavier Hunte, Aiyana Hunte, Zakai Hunte, and Ayla DeOliveira. Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, the late Clarence Hunte and Veronica (Joseph) Hunte.
