Fall River

Deborah Ann (Fernandes) Almeida, 70, of Fall River, passed away on Friday, September 12, 2025. She was a remarkable individual whose presence touched the lives of all who knew her.

Born in Fall River, Deborah was the daughter of the late Helen Fernandes and James E. Britland both of Fall River. She was step-daughter to the late David "Charlie" May.

Throughout her life, Deborah found joy in her many interests. In her younger years, she enjoyed bowling, attending concerts, and traveling to New Hampshire every summer. She loved the mountains and always dreamed of seeing Yosemite Nation Park. She had a deep love for reading and learning, often finding solace and inspiration between the pages of her favorite books and encyclopedias. In her later years, her days were filled with devotion as she prayed the rosary daily, a testament to her strong faith and spirituality. In addition, Deborah was a compassionate person, and donated to various charitable causes. She loved helping others and made a significant impact in the lives of those who benefited from her kindness.

Deborah is survived by her daughters, Vicki Almeida of Fall River, Courtney Goncalo of Lakeville, and Candice Gehan of Framingham; and her lifetime companion, Douglas J. Goncalo. She was predeceased by several half-brothers, Walter P. Gehan, Sr of Fall River as well as the late James E. Britland Jr. of Westport, Kenneth J. Britland of Fall River and surviving half-brother John "Jack" Britland, Fall River's longest running City Council President as well as his wife Dot of Fall River. Deborah was very proud of her brother Jack's many achievements, the legacy behind Britland Park in Fall River, and was happy to reconnect with him in her last years.

Her daughters were her pride and joy, and she dedicated her life to nurturing and supporting them. The love she shared with her daughters will be cherished and remembered forever.

Her Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday, September 19, at Good Shepard Parish, at 10:00 A.M.. Burial at Notre Dame Cemetery.
