Carol A. Vidal

Carol A. (Gamache) Vidal, 75, of Westport, wife of the late Paul Vidal, passed away on Tuesday, July 15, 2025.

Born to Joseph Gamache and Bertha (Carroll) Gamache, Carol was a proud alumna of Apponequet High School and later earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Bridgewater State College. Her career culminated as the Registrar at the Southern New England School of Law (now UMass School of Law).

In retirement, Carol's spirit shone brightly through her many passions. She loved to travel, exploring far-flung places around the globe, and she was an active member of the local Westport arts community. An avid miniaturist, Carol expressed her artistic talents in various ways and had a deep appreciation for the arts.

In addition to her artistic pursuits, she dedicated her time as a volunteer for the Friends of the Westport Library. In this role, she contributed her skills by publishing their member newsletter and helping to organize their annual book sale. Her enthusiasm for books and reading was a defining part of her character, making her a cherished source of knowledge.

Carol was also known for her love of animals, particularly cats. Her friends and family often marveled at her encyclopedic knowledge, especially regarding historical topics, which she delighted in sharing.

Carol was the proud mother of two children and three grandchildren. She leaves a daughter, Veronica Vidal Praeger, her husband Derek Praeger, and son Rudolf of San Diego, CA; a son, Andrew Vidal, his wife Kristine Lemee Vidal, their son Vincent and their daughter Juliet of East Bridgewater, MA. Carol was the elder sister to Peter Gamache (wife Nancy Gamache) of Plymouth, MA, and leaves many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Visitation services will be held on Friday, August 1, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Auclair Funeral Home, located at 690 South Main Street, Fall River, MA 02721. A celebration of Carol's life will take place in the funeral home the following day, Saturday, August 2, 2025, at 10:00 AM.

Carol A. Vidal's spirit will continue to inspire those she leaves behind, reminding us of the beauty of creativity, the joy of exploration, and the importance of community service.
