Thomas P. “Tommy” Arruda, 69, husband of the late Joyce (Rego) Arruda and a former co-owner of Henry’s Tire Shop, Globe Street, Fall River, passed away at Charlton Memorial Hospital.
Born in Fall River, he was the son of the late Manuel and Dorothy (Mello) Arruda.
An Army veteran of the Vietnam War, he was awarded two Bronze Star Medals, as well as the National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Army Commendation Medal, Air Medal, Sharpshooter Medal and Expert Grenade Medal. Tommy enjoyed traveling (especially going on cruises),
line dancing, golfing and visiting casinos.
Tommy leaves five siblings, Margaret Borges of Assonet, Dorothy Estrella of Westport, Joseph Arruda of Attleboro, Marie Anne Raposa of Rehoboth and Francis “Frank Arruda of Westport; and many nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Alfred Arruda, George Arruda, Geraldine Lavoie, Manuel Arruda, William Arruda, Deborah Arruda and John Arruda.
Following cremation, Tommy’s cremated remains will be entombed at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Connery Road, Bourne on Tuesday , January 8, 2018 at 1:00 p.m., with military honors. Family and friends are invited to attend. Calling hours are omitted.
